Affordable Housing
Housing that a household can pay for while still having money left over for other necessities like food, transportation, and healthcare. The US government considers housing affordable if the occupancy cost (rent or ownership cost, inclusive of all utilities) is no more than 30% of the collective income of the occupants (household income). Affordable housing may be naturally occurring, built by a private developer through a public/private partnership, or developed, owned and managed by the government (this last category is called public housing).
