The bonds will be sold and revenue will go towards green projects such as purchasing electric buses, updating facilities to reduce fossil fuel emissions, building flood protections, increasing system resilience to flooding and extreme weather events, and more. Outside of low ridership post-pandemic, climate change also threatens MTA business. Several prominent sections of MTA’s network are vulnerable to climate hazards such as the Rockaways, and Metro-North’s Hudson line when running along the waterfront. MTA officials have said they are pleased with the bond ratings upgrades. According to Moody’s analysts however, federal policy changes and increased support from New York state and city do leave some uncertainty.
