Patterson Houses in the Bronx has undergone a $500,000 renovation of its outdoor communal areas under the Green Space Connections program. With extensive input from residents, the project added two renovated playgrounds, an accessible fitness zone, and an upgraded basketball court complete with a community-designed wave mural. The initiative is part of NYCHA’s larger Connected Communities effort, which seeks to foster stronger physical and social connections by transforming open spaces based on resident feedback. Several nonprofit partners collaborated in the design, manufacture, and installation of playground and fitness equipment. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on September 9 to celebrate the improvements, which aim to serve people of all ages and enhance health, safety, and quality of life in the development.
