Early childhood educators play an integral role in our society as they help educate future generations. However, a majority of them face the same problem: find an affordable place to live. According to Anna Powell, a senior researcher at the Center for the Study of Child Care Employment, “The parents can’t afford it, and then the centers can’t afford to pay a wage that would honor the work that that teacher provides.” Friends Center for Children is a Connecticut child care center providing its staff with rent-free homes designed by Yale architecture students. The center is giving educators the opportunity to moving into newly constructed house where they are just required to pay utilities, not rent.
