Flannery Associates, a company with limited public information about its operations, has been purchasing extensive parcels of land in a predominantly agricultural area located 60 miles northeast of San Francisco. Making generous offers well above market rates to landowners, whether the land was listed for sale or not, Flannery has quickly acquired significant tracts of land. Brian Brokaw, representing the investor group, expressed optimism about the future of Solano County and California, stating intentions to collaborate with local residents, elected officials, and Travis Air Force Base in the near future.

In the context of California’s enduring housing crisis, exacerbated by the Bay Area’s real estate shortages and challenges in construction, the acquisition of land by Flannery Associates signals a potential shift towards addressing the region’s housing needs. While past initiatives for ambitious projects, like creating new cities or societies, have remained largely theoretical, Flannery’s plans to engage Solano County residents through the state’s initiative system offer promises of job creation, increased tax revenues, and investments in local infrastructure. With the Bay Area remaining one of the nation’s costliest regions, the potential financial gains from rezoning and development could be substantial, reflecting the ongoing struggle to alleviate California’s persistent housing shortage.
