NYT: An Architect Build Toward the Future on Mexico’s Border
March 01, 2024 The development projects led by architect Fernanda Canales and facilitated through the Programa de Mejoramiento Urbano (P.M.U.) have had a transformative impact on under-resourced towns like Agua Prieta and Naco. By providing much-needed civic facilities and revitalizing neglected neighborhoods, these projects have enhanced community development and fostered a sense of pride and belonging among residents. Moreover, the involvement of local labor and materials has stimulated economic activity, generating employment opportunities and promoting inclusive economic growth. Additionally, the creation of accessible public spaces has facilitated social interaction and engagement, strengthening social cohesion and connectedness within the communities. Overall, these initiatives have not only improved physical infrastructure but have also contributed significantly to the social and economic development of the towns, promoting inclusivity, resilience, and sustainability in the process. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/01/arts/design/mexico-border-architecture-canales.html
