Link: NYC Ferry Redesigns Routes, Plans New East Harlem and South Brooklyn Stations

NYC Ferry is implementing a redesigned route map in December to speed up service, improve reliability, and strengthen inter-borough connections. Key updates include shifting the South Brooklyn route to add a new Midtown connection at 34th Street, splitting the East River line into two express-style routes, merging the Soundview and Rockaway lines for a direct Midtown link, and extending the St. George route through Brooklyn before looping back to Lower Manhattan. The city is also planning two new landings at East 125th Street in East Harlem and at Made Bush Terminal in Sunset Park to support growth in rapidly developing waterfront neighborhoods. The overhaul is part of EDC’s broader optimization strategy as ferry ridership climbs past 7.4 million annually and per-rider subsidies continue to decline. City officials say the changes will make the system more accessible, efficient, and sustainable for New Yorkers.
