The program worked to support Lima in lowering emissions, bettering air quality, and promoting urban mobility. Notably, the program’s main achievement included the evaluation of current cycling networks and the mobilization of technical studies to create new bike paths that will reduce around 19,000 tons of CO2 (equivalent to removing 4,300 cars from Lima). The strategy adopted a “cycle-inclusive strategy” that prioritized increasing cycling accessibility for women, girls, boys, youth, and the elderly. Additionally, the program resulted in the design of the country’s first Clean Air Zone that involves the pedestrianization and permanent traffic reorganization within a portion of the city’s historic center. Significant energy and positive feedback given by collaborators showcase the power of international support and inclusive strategy design.
