Tillman Water Reclamation Plant to 45 million gallons per day by 2027, nearly twice its original size, reports Ian James for the Los Angeles Times. The expansion will supply water to 500,000 residents, enhancing the city’s local water security and reducing reliance on distant mountain streams that feed Mono Lake, an ecologically fragile site. The plant will use advanced treatment and groundwater recharge to produce locally sourced drinking water, strengthening LA’s drought resilience while preserving the option to draw from Mono Lake only in emergencies.
