Link: Key Committee Votes No On Caesars Palace Times Square Casino, All Bets Are Off as Committee Rejects Avenir Casino Application

The Manhattan casino proposals by SL Green and Silverstein Properties were both rejected by neighborhood committees on Wednesday, bringing an abrupt end to the multibillion-dollar developments.

Within about an hour Wednesday morning, two separate panels voted to reject SL Green’s $5.4 billion Caesars Palace Times Square bid, and then again against Silverstein’s $7 billion project called The Avenir slated for West 41st Street and 11th Avenue. The decisions by the community advisory committees officially kill both projects, leaving just six other proposals with a shot of competing for the three lucrative casino licenses that the state will award by the end of the year.

The casinos still in contention are Bally’s Bronx near the Whitestone Bridge; the Coney on Coney Island; Freedom Plaza in Manhattan near the headquarters of the United Nations; MGM Empire City in Yonkers; Metropolitan Park near Citi Field in Queens; and Resorts World New York City at the Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens.
