Link: Homeless Population Declines in Los Angeles for a Second Straight Year

The number of people sleeping outdoors in Los Angeles is reported to have dropped for the second year in a row. The decline was by 9.5 percent for Los Angeles County and 7.9 percent for the city. This is thanks in part to the billions of dollars in public spending that have been targeted at decreasing homelessness and funding affordable housing. Countless initiatives have also been launched to combat the problem, including by adding housing units, addiction outreach centers, and mental health clinics. Despite this, over 72,000 people remain homeless in Los Angeles County, whose total population is nearly 10 million people. Mayor Karen Bass emphasizes that though this report shows good progress, the problem is still very far away from being alleviated.
