Link: City moves to redevelop Long Island City sites once eyed for Amazon’s HQ2

Three city-owned sites on the Long Island City waterfront  once set to host Amazon’s now-abandoned HQ2  may soon be redeveloped as part of Mayor Eric Adams’ broader rezoning plan for the neighborhood. The city plans to issue a request for expressions of interest (RFEI) this spring for the 672,000-square-foot DOE building at 44-36 Vernon Blvd., previously promised to Amazon before its 2019 withdrawal. Community groups have since advocated repurposing the site for local businesses and artists. The city is also considering two nearby parking lots for future development, potentially for housing, though they’re not part of the current RFEI. The rezoning aims to create up to 14,000 homes across Long Island City, with a formal review process expected to begin this spring and conclude with a City Council vote later this year.
