Link: Charger Data Transparency: Curing Range Anxiety, Powering EV Adoption

A key issue with widespread electric vehicle (EV) adoption is the widespread “data deserts” or uncertainty surrounding chargers and whether they are in service or open. This problem results in significant anxiety for EV drivers. Current data deserts can range up to 1,308 miles. Brookings most recent paper argues states should require that chargers report real-time status to any EV mapping app to ensure EV drivers’ reliable navigation. By sharing universal real-time data for fast charges, EV usage is estimated to increase sales annually by 6.4%, reducing carbon emissions by 15 million metric tons in 2030 alone. State-level requirements may be most viable considering the current federal policy landscape, and 28 states have been identified to support EV adoption for effective delivery.
