Progress has been uneven. Google committed $750M in land for at least 15,000 homes and has approvals for 12,900 units but hasn’t started construction. Meta has spent about $200M including a $150M loan fund for extremely-low income housing. Apple has spent $1.6B supporting over 10,000 units, homelessness prevention, and first-time buyer assistance. Regulatory hurdles and shifting corporate real estate needs have slowed timelines. While California projects stall, Microsoft and Amazon’s similar pledges outside the state with $750M in Seattle and over $3.6B across Seattle, Arlington, and Nashville have advanced more quickly.
