As cities look for ways to create more affordable housing, one way is by rolling back single-family zoning laws – the city of Alexandria recently passed that plan. In Alexandria, VA the median home price is just under $600,000, with the median single-family homes going for more than $800,000. However, with soaring home prices, Alexandria residents are suing the city stating the rolling back of the zoning laws would ruin the city and cause higher density. Also citing the new homes would only benefit developers and price out residents. On the other hand, many advocacy groups are for the measure saying it’s the right step forward for home ownership.
